IllustStudio Tutorial Part 2 by Melloki IllustStudio Tutorial Part 2 by Melloki
EDIT: I do not use this program anymore, so I am not doing tech support on it. Please do no message/comment with questions as I will not answer them.

Here's the second part of my IS tutorial series!
It covers the tools and the basics of the uses vector layers. Sorry if it's somewhat vague in most aspects...there's a LOT of features to cover in IS, and a lot of them are hard to explain without actually seeing them in action ^^; Remember, the best/easiest way to learn all this is to actually play with each tool and figure out the settings for yourself.

FYI: I love inking in vector layers. It is a godsend! For you SAI users, it's basically like the pen tool on there (or so I hear, never really used SAI :|)

I found out what garbage is! It's when there are like...little stray lines/dots! You lasso around them and it'll wipe em out :] Sometimes with a tablet you get stray lines (well..I do anyway) So this will fix that

Well there are a few reasons, mainly just having to do with me not drawing/painting as much as I used to, and when I do I don't usually want to go through the hassle of trying to run this program because for me it would involve reinstalling bootcamp and windows on my mac. IS was kinda acting weird on me as well since it was an early/ported version so I sort of abandoned it. I'm sure it's gotten better but for my current uses I'll stick with CS5 or Painter 12

Well I'm still to get friendly with Illustudio xD But I can say it's nice to do linearts with it, but I'm not good with coloring yet.
I discovered that lines problems it's the same as SAI: stabilizer. My friend helped me with this ^^

You can change it on the top, next to the pen tool. Click there and it'll open a window so you can customize your pen. Change the size and some squares that changes the stabilizer. Hope it helps~

For now I still prefer SAI ^^

i think you should see the settings of your eraser..uncheck the hmm, somewhere in correction part, the one which has something to do with "layer"... hehe, sorry not accurate wording coz' i use different pc today.. might tell you later...

o_o that is...unusual. It should behave exactly like PS and every other layered paint program does. Honestly, I haven't drawn or used IS in months so I can't remember what might cause this. The only thing coming to mind is maybe some setting with the eraser you're using.

Hi, I'm also having a problem with my M pen and I was wondering; could you share the settings of it so I could make my own? ^^

I don't think I changed any of my M pen settings, just moved 'after correction' bar up if I wanted it to be smoother.

I want to use the M pen for my line art but it doesn't see to be on the pen tools when I opened IS. I checked the Material folder and the file is there. I tried loading it as a separate brush, but it only gave me an error: "The filename, the directory name, or the volume label syntax is incorrect." @_@ Is there a way for me to get it back into the program? It's version 1.2.

Thanks in advance =)

No, unfortunately it's not available commercially outside japan so I had to use...other means to download a translated version. Though if it ever is sold abroad I will be buying it and I encourage others to do the same.

Do you mean like photoshop can? (with the channels method etc?) I'm not quite sure, as I haven't tried it for that. Though you can import other file formats like .psd into it.

So i made a new vector layer (yes i'm sure it is vector i did it like 8+ times) but it's like.. exactly the same as the others. There is no ink pen tool or anything, just the same old tools. I really want to ink my sketches with it, but i think there is something wrong?

Do you have any idea as to what i should do? D;

Hmmm that's very odd :< Maybe it's the version of IS you have? The one I'm running here is 1.1.6 which is pretty common. I'm not really sure how to fix this one, except to offer a link to the version I have so you could try unintalling and reinstalling from that.

Is the lineart good for the mouse too???
Is this free or do u have to but it???

The vector lineart would probably be really nice for mouse since you can move and drag it if you make a mistake, plus it as a smoothing feature that evens out the strokes (ie if you're jittery/don't have a steady hand)
Officially, no it is not free, but at the time it was also not available for purchase outside of japan (for some reason the makers were not selling it to foreigners) However I got mine through unofficial and free methods *hides pirate hat*
